    Should Christmas be Christian?

There is a lot of talk about avoiding the real meaning if Christmas in order to avoid upsetting non-Christian religions and people.  I think we should not deny our heritage or our faith.  Discuss ...

The whole issue of celebrating Christmas being offensive to other religions (particularly Islam) is a load of nonsense. I'm the Chair of Governors at a primary school that has a 99.9% Islamic intake. This did not stop it having a Nativity Service performed for its 99.9% Islamic parents.

Someone ought to get it through to the puritanical and piously pompous panjandrums promoting political correctness that Islam can hardly be offended by the celebration of the birth of one of its prophets.

Fortunately within my borough, which is deemed to be one where community cohesion is a major challenge, officialdom takes the sensible line, vigorously promoting opportunities for Christmas shopping etc.

If anyone should be offended by the  way we celebrate Christmas, with its commercialised greed and excess, it should be sincere practicing Christians. Or perhaps I'm too cynical.

I don't think this is an issue of the PC brigade I think it is simply the tabloid press trying to stir it up again and in particular a couple of daily's that like nothing better than to stir up the blue rinse brigade intil they rupture a haemaroid!

Always amuses me when people blame the tabloid press for keep reporting these stories - nobody has ever denied any of them, so presumably they are true.  In which case, it obviously IS the PC brigade up to their usual anti-white/British/Christian stupidity.

    Re: Should Christmas be Christian?

Well, I'm opposed to those sorts of display in government offices and locales. On private property, built with private funds, sure. Do what you want. But my objection is based simply on the fact that government types already get more holidays than the bulk of the simpleton taxpayers, and until roads and bridges are in better condition, I think they've got better things to spend their time and our tax money on.

If some groups want to spend their own time and money on putting up a display, I'm all for it, but please let's not make this into a months-long Government "slow time."

My concern isn't the display, but on whose clock it's being assembled, and with whose funds. I'd be happy to donate a few bucks to help decorate City Hall, but I hate the idea that somebody's feeling free to scoop into the ol' tax bucket for pretty lights and an easy day at the office.

How's that for a first post?
