The whole issue of celebrating Christmas being offensive to other religions (particularly Islam) is a load of nonsense. I'm the Chair of Governors at a primary school that has a 99.9% Islamic intake. This did not stop it having a Nativity Service performed for its 99.9% Islamic parents.
Someone ought to get it through to the puritanical and piously pompous panjandrums promoting political correctness that Islam can hardly be offended by the celebration of the birth of one of its prophets.
Fortunately within my borough, which is deemed to be one where community cohesion is a major challenge, officialdom takes the sensible line, vigorously promoting opportunities for Christmas shopping etc.
If anyone should be offended by the way we celebrate Christmas, with its commercialised greed and excess, it should be sincere practicing Christians. Or perhaps I'm too cynical.
